Fine Art: “Play for Me” sculpture, acrylic on wood.
My mother used to sing me to sleep when I was a child, and in turn, I sang my children(and nieces and nephews) to sleep and my daughter sings my granddaughter to sleep before bed. This poem is for all of us who sing to our children (whether we have incredible voices or not) and to the memories we carry of song and those perfect moments right before bed time. ~~RMC
A Mother’s Song
The music fades the stars appear
Our evening angels gather here.
Before I sleep I hear your voice
“White Coral Bells” will be my choice.
You sing so soft
The song repeats
Oh how those melodies
Sound so sweet.
Remember this song
I heard you say
Someday you’ll sing it,
Just this way.
Imagine that
A Mothers song
We’ll sing to children
Lifetimes long.
You taught me well
To sing out loud
To love, to live,
Be kind and proud.
It is the music
That you share
Inside of us
And everywhere.
Listen well
Our sweet young children
Song is a gift
That keeps on giving.
So when you feel you can’t go on
Your life fresh out of grace
Just find that beat within your heart
I know you’ll find your place.
And so our music
One more time
Continues,
Down this family line.
Remember well
Your Mothers song
She sings to you
From lifetimes long.
Words might change
The memories true
Her song so right
When she loves you.
